Sources close to Tyson Fury’s team are hinting at a COVID-19 outbreak threatening to postpone the Wilder fight according to ESPN. This fight has been viewed as an inconvenient roadblock to the Fury vs Joshua total unification at heavyweight. A delay here would only further interrupt the biggest fight in the heavyweight division and a chance to see all four belts wrap around the waist of one man. This marks the second fight in the last thirty days to be killed off by COVID-19 following the Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos light weight title fight. The fight fight is only a few weeks away due to take place on July 24th so any interruption in the camp this close to the fight could be disastrous. Early expectations according to the article are a rescheduled date for September. Interesting enough detractors out there on YouTube are calling this duck much like they did Teofimo Lopez’s COVID case. In the case of Lopez I don’t see him ducking his career high payday from Triller to face a guy he is favored to beat in Kambosos. I find that entire line of thinking ridiculous. Is Fury doing this because he is unprepared? He looks like he has fattened up during the lay off and after training for Joshua he has suddenly had to change opponents. He is facing a guy he handily defeated last year and outside of a huge scare in the final round dominated the first fight. People are accusing Fury of trying to dodge this fight on the level buy I lend no credence to the cheating allegations, why would Fury duck a guy he easily defeated last time out?
Eddie Hearn has kicked around the possibility of Canelo Alvarez facing off against Artur Beterbiev at 175 lbs. On the set of the DAZN Boxing Show Hearn told hosts Ak and Barak that if they cannot secure a Caleb Plant fight that Beterbiev would be next at light heavyweight. I love this fight, as much as a showdown with Plant is symbolic in unifying the titles, Canelo would be an immense favorite. Much like Golovkin, Beterbiev is a fighter that many detractors have stated Canelo would never go near. Well here is Canelo to prove people wrong and take on Beterbiev in addition to Mayweather and Golovkin twice. There is a lane of detractors calling Canelo out for not facing Charlo or Andrade but Beterbiev is a very different animal. Hell I think Beterbiev and Bivol are serious threats to Canelo Alvarez more so that Charlo and Andrade are. If Canelo goes up to 175 lbs. and defeats Beterbiev that is a massive accomplishment! At this time this is only a rumor hence the story going into my rumor section but lets wait and see.
